‘Got my mojo working! I’ve got my mojo working!’ 1957. Muddy Waters sings his heart out. A new, exciting beat is storming the charts of America. Festivals are on fire. In the early seventies Jim Morrison passes on the fire. ‘Mister Mojo Risin….’, he moans and wails on his conquest through the heart of Los Angeles. The devilish appeal of the “Mojo Man”!

It was May 2014 when Dutch band Mojo Man played their first show. Five songs for a regional radio and TV station. A little more than a year later they recorded their selftitled debut album Mojo Man featuring nine stomping tracks.

If you know your classic blues, rock and soul ABC’s, this is going to sound awfully familiar. Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding and Rolling stones are unmistakeable influences and singer/guitarist and main songwriter of the band Marcel Duprix is the first to acknowledge that.

Founders Reinier Zervaas and Marcel Duprix set out to make music that would appeal to a big audience serving up a ’70s-influenced sound of blues-infused rock and soul. Zervaas: “what sets us apart is the fusion of a good old rock and roll band with a 5-piece horn section. We fondly call it balls and horns.”

“Playing so many shows in the last 18 months allowed us to develop our sound on stage. We tried to preserve the energy of our live shows that seems to come across regardless of the age of our audience.”

Duprix says: “Every writer tries to write an all killer, no filler album. Well, I don’t know. We just tried to have as much fun as we possibly could in the studio. All songs were recorded with us playing as a band. Just like how we do it live: with our balls out in the open for everyone to see and straight from the heart. It may sound far from pristine but it is honest and it’s the fruit of our labour.”

Shortly after release of their debut album in November 2015 Mojo Man got rave reviews in major Dutch magazines and most of them also did features. The band performed live on national radio shows such as “Countdown Cafe” (Veronica Radio) and one of the biggest Dutch radio shows “Spijkers Met Koppen” (Vara Radio 2). Creating more interest for the band and directly resulting in festival bookings for 2016, internationally.
